Chalk Pit Forge in Amberley Museum, West Sussex, has been run by Alex Smith BA [Hons] since 2008.
Alex says, "Being a blacksmith allows you to make anything, from tools to staircases. The blacksmith is an engineer that makes items that will function for centuries and is an artist who designs unique products that enhance the beauty in your home and garden. Each piece is designed to suit the location and the client's specifications."
Alex works to commission making functional and sculptural pieces.
His bespoke service includes architectural reliefs and friezes, balcony railings, balustrades, bannisters, canopies, fire baskets & accessories, fire pits, follies, fountains, gates, gazebos, handrails, hinges, interior and exterior furniture, Juliette balconies, keys, log burners, lights, pergolas, public art, railings, restoration, screens and dividers, sculpture, seating, signs, staircases, sundials, tables, wall sculpture and weathervanes.
